In today’s globalized world, accessing content in different languages has become more seamless, thanks to YouTube’s innovative auto-dubbing feature. This game-changing tool allows viewers to connect with creators and diverse content worldwide, irrespective of language barriers. Whether you are keen to try your hand at making a classic French gratin, learn about traditional sewing from Indian artisans, or explore hauntingly beautiful locales abroad, auto dubbing ensures that these rich experiences are accessible to everyone.

Recently, YouTube rolled out the auto-dubbing capability to thousands of channels in the YouTube Partner Program, particularly those focused on educational content. We are excited to announce that this feature will soon be expanded to include a broader range of content genres.

How Does Auto Dubbing Work?

1. Upload Your Video

Just upload your video as you normally would! YouTube automatically identifies the original language and generates dubbed versions in multiple languages.

2. Access Your Dubbed Videos

To view the dubbed videos, head to YouTube Studio and navigate to the “Languages” section. Here, you can listen to the dubs and decide if they meet your expectations. If you are not satisfied with a particular dub, you have the option to unpublish or delete it.

3. Check Availability

If you are unsure whether your channel has this feature, visit YouTube Studio. You will find it located in the “Advanced Settings.” You can review the dubs before making them publicly available.

It is important to keep in mind that this technology is in the early stages, and while we are continually improving it, there may be instances where translations are not perfect or the dubbed voice does not quite capture the original speaker’s tone. YouTube values your feedback as their teams strive to enhance the experience!

Supported Languages for Auto-Dubbing

For example, if your video is in English, it can be auto-dubbed into languages like French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, and Spanish. Similarly, videos in those languages will be dubbed into English. Viewers can easily identify dubbed videos by the “auto-dubbed” label or choose to listen in the original language using the track selector—YouTube also remembers their preferred language for future videos.

What’s Next?

YouTube is excited to collaborate with specialists from Google DeepMind and Google Translate to improve the accuracy and expressiveness of their dubs. Keep an eye out for upgrades, including the anticipated “Expressive Speech” feature previewed during “Made on YouTube”, designed to capture the creator’s nuances, emotions, and even the vibe of their surroundings.

Try out auto dubbing in your next video, and experience the world of content without language limitations!
